Any suggested additions or edits can be left on this thread and I will update the main post as required. Hopefully this will make it easier for people interested in MAME emulatable shooters to find info and downloads quickly.

Heh, awesome. My friend and I (with whom I'll be doing some video reviews soon... stay tuned!) are working on a similar project, and are pretty much trying to document every 2-D shooter ever made.

Anyway, some suggested additions are Image Fight, Strikers 1945 I & II, Gunbird 1 & 2, Dangun Feveron, U.N. Squadron, and maybe the Gradius games. I'd provide DL links, but I'm really not sure whether the links that I have are to working roms or not. Those are all I can think of off hand, but as usual, I'll probably mention more later.

By the way, I think this list is badass so far. Makes things pretty damn convenient.

Thanks.. I'll add those suggestions to the list.

The only problem I'm dealing with now is that each new version of MAME sometime requires newer ROM sets.. and ROMNation is very slow to update their sets. So some games like Image Fight and Raiden are saying they're broken.. although they seem to play just fine.

I'm going to need to track down updated ROM images for the ones that aren't auditing correctly.

If anyone comes accross newer sets being hosted online then send up a link.

I'm going to continue to update this thread for the time being but I'm noticing that most of the online roms are rather old and don't work too well under the new version of MAME. There are also notable absences that are bugging me.. Like Battle Garegga wink.gif

I just ordered a complete run of MAME v0.124 ROMs and when I get them in I'm going to put up a 'Files' area for shooter ROMs.. that way I can maintain the updates myself.

I've decided to host all of the valid (audited) shmup ROM images I've come across online. As I find good dumps of various shooters I will post them to the Shoot'em Up ROM's file directory. Check there from now on instead of this thread.

If you can contribute a valid working ROM for the latest edition of MAME (That is not already on this site) please do so to the above file area.

Thanks

I uploaded a few more MAME roms in the rom section. I tested them all, so they should all work fine in the new version of MAME. If they don't, however, just let me know. There are much more to come, most likely tomorrow.

The movie theater in my town finally got one of the old Neo-Geo machines working (after the thing had been setting there all alone for 3 years). It was a Blazing Star machine. It's been working for about a week or so now, and I've already played it several times. It's a good game, despite how similar it feels to R-Type. Here's a link to the MAME rom: http://www.romnation.net/srv/download/rom/...azing-Star.html

Yup, it's a great NG shooter.. We have the file here as well as it's older cousin Pulstar here.

Glad to see they kept the old guy running... We have a local Shop Rite that trashed their Neo·Geo cab before I was able to rescue it.

That actually made me feel sad...

BTW, have you guys heard of a freeware shmup called "MinishoterRS Delta"? I've tried submiting it a couple of times to the database, but I don't think it got through. It's a really good game.

Nope, but I'll check it out. As to the uploads.. I need to tweak the PHP settings on the server to allow for larger uploads. We switched servers a while back and I didn't transfer the settings over..

I'll probably get to it this weekend.
