Resembles defender.... (Defender clones on the C64)
LactobacillusPrime posted a video in LactobacillusPrime (Marks Shmup Videos)
This time no game character but a game that has been ported many times. It is amazing to see that some ports even copy the handwritten Williams by 'handwriting' their own or the company name. Then there's the explosions that are all very similar. The game screen layout including the radar - which does not really seem to work properly in the c64 version I got - is very very similar for quite a number of the ports. The two Odyssey2 games that flash in between somewhere don't really belong but do resemble the gameplay just a tad. But I had it connected so I thought ...'what the hell'... -

Beamrider (Intellivision) Highscore Challenge - 2nd system
LactobacillusPrime posted a video in STG Videos
I dare you to beat my highscore on the Intellivision game 'Beamrider' if you can please try to make a video response and reply to this video. Beamrider is a game by Activision and it has also been ported to other platforms like the Colecovision, Intellivision, Commodore 64. The scoring seems to be the same on the other platforms, yet the difficulty seems to be a little different so scores may not be comparable across the various systems. After playing the wickedly hard Atari 2600 version I tried the game on the Intellivision. It plays a little differently - may be down to the controller. It has a nice launch sequence and bonus counting screen. The patterns seem very similar with the bonuses and the levels being very similar. Yet the tempo/timing may be different. Not sure if the scores compare well between the systems. Hence these different versions. Beamrider is one of those games I have on many systems 🙂 Love to play the different versions actually. This one feels very nice. Recorded off the console with Archos 605 Media recorder - zoomed in slightly to accommodate the widescreen format but with the correct aspect ratio. If you do a video response real hardware or emulation is fine. I will ask Interghost to put this Intellivision challenge video on his Retro Records blog. You can find that great initiative for competitive arcade high scores here: http://interghosthouse.blogspot.co.uk/ Score: 16725, Sector 9 @ Level 1, 3 lives
