  1. A great game from the Gradius series, this is the Gofer Gradius II game on cd-rom running on the Duo-R/PCEngine console. There's also a port of this game on the MSX systems. One of the amazing features of this game is the giant suns and firebird on the first level. Hard as nails! In 1985 Konami released a great game called Gradius (also known as Nemesis) in the arcades but also on home computer systems and consoles. It was heavily inspired after Scramble which was released in 1981 and is considered the precursor or start of the series. In this video I play all the MSX cartridges that I own of the series. There are more games for the MSX though and a whole plethora on other systems as well. One of my favorite shmup series.
  2. The sequel to Dragon Spirit, a game by Namco falling into the shmup category. Released in 1991 about 3 years after the 1st game. The cool bit about this game is that it actually has a two player mode which I can't show as I can't control two controllers at the same time. It features organic end-of-level bosses that you will find in many other shmups of this golden era of the shmup. The Wii (Virtual Console) as well as the Playstation (Namco Museum Encore) got ports of this game so it is also available on newer systems. If you are interested in the 1st game in this 2 game series check out Dave Webster's video on the 1st game called 'Dragon Spirit' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huQBLle9nqM This video was inspired by him as I heard him mention he didn't own the sequel so here's my little gameplay of it. 3. This is the first time I try out this somewhat claustrophobic horizontal shooter by Hudson Soft. It was the game that came with the TurboDuo in the US. It's among the best I've seen on the PCEninge and it has a great soundtrack which can't really be appreciated in my video 😛 Warning 4:02 my phone starts chiming in...and continues to do so for a precious 30 seconds. B*ll*cks, I am not recording the video again 😛 PCEngine Super CD-Rom: February 1992 TurboDuo: October 1992 Virtual Console (US): October 2007 PSN Network (Jap): March 2010

    Mark Plays... Salamander (TG16/PCengine)

I am a huge fan of the Gradius, Nemesis, Salamander, Life Force, Parodius series of video games. This game can be found on the PCEngine / TurboGrafX 16 by Nec. It's tough as nails but well worth checking out.
  5. I recently did the Tuber's Highscore Challenge for the Capcom game 1943 (Arcade). Now I played the Amstrad CPC version and this version quite a bit so I tend to be better at this. So after doing the highscore on the arcade version I just had to return to this. Recorded this during a heat wave and I had a fan going on in the back ground, too much ambient noise that kind of drowns out the sound. Make sure to crank up the volume a little to hear things. Sorry about that. It was either using a fan or melt. 😛
